GARETH Southgate’s touching letter to a staff member has been revealed, making the England football coach even more likeable.
ENGLAND football coach Gareth Southgate’s touching letter to a staff member shows why the Three Lions chief is so loved.
The national team boss has won over a new legion of fans since leading the country to a World Cup semi-final, The Sun reports.
The 2-1 defeat to Croatia on Thursday morning (AEST) crushed dreams but despite this the waistcoat-wearing coach has earned sky high public approval.
And part of the reason for that is his care and attention to those working around him. That was revealed perfectly by England’s social media manager Jim Lucas, who uploaded a photo of a note Southgate sent him on Twitter.
Southgate’s heartfelt letter read: “The more I see, the more important it is that when ‘attacking this tournament’ we tell our own story.
    “You’re capturing that brilliantly.
“Keep doing it and I hope this World Cup brings you unforgettable personal memories. Best wishes, Gareth.”
Poignant images showed Southgate and wife Alison alone in an empty Luzhniki Stadium following the extra-time loss to Croatia.
The pair were pictured locked in an embrace long after proud Three Lions supporters had filtered out of the ground.
    ENGLAND INVESTIGATED OVER CHANT
England fans are being investigated over chants of a “possibly discriminatory” nature during the 2-1 loss to Croatia.
Three Lions followers are to be probed by FIFA after singing “No Surrender” in the stands in Moscow last night.
FIFA said: “We can confirm that a report has been filed in relation to chants of a possible discriminatory nature by English fans.
“Proceedings have been opened against The Football Association.”
“No Surrender” has been sung on the terraces for years and is an anti Irish Republican Army (IRA) song.
It is unclear whether its lyrics would breach FIFA’s rules on discrimination.
The tune has been heard at all of England’s games in Russia but was heard much more prominently during the defeat to Croatia.
The Three Lions went ahead in Moscow, but were pegged back by Ivan Perisic’s equaliser before Mario Mandzukic’s goal sent their opponents through to Sunday’s final against France.
Yesterday FIFA fined the FA $95,000 after Eric Dier, Raheem Stirling and Dele Alli ignored a warning telling them to stop wearing “unauthorised socks”.
The players wore branded ankle supports over their official Nike socks.
This was deemed to have “breached media and marketing regulations and the FIFA equipment regulations”.
England will be in action again against Belgium on Sunday morning for the third place playoff in St Petersburg.
